What you''ll get to do:
The Director of Large Group Underwriting will maintain appropriate pricing of our Key Account and Middle Market Business Segments to ensure that Medica meets its financial and membership goals for the segment. Duties include the following:
Monitor the staff pricing decisions made for specific groups as well as through macro book of business analyses
Analyze the products and prices of competitors and, based upon those analyses, work with others in the Company to develop and price new products and/or processes
Manage a team of underwriters who must interface effectively with the sales and account services staffs, as well as with external customers of Medica
Evaluate financial, pricing, and product strategies of competitors to ensure market competitiveness of Medica''s products and rates
Key Accountabilities:
Ensure appropriate pricing of the Large Group Business Segment
Manage Large Group Underwriting Team
Represent Large Group Underwriting in Cross Functional Teams
Monitor Compliance with Medica policies and procedures
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required
8 years experience in large group (over 50 employees) health underwriting highly preferred
3 years management responsibilities highly preferred
Specific types of
Experience:
Experience in small group (50 employees and less) underwriting is preferred
Strong knowledge of Excel is necessary
Knowledge of Access and Word is a plus
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent knowledge and understanding of financial underwriting
Ability to analyze large volumes of financial data and to make/implement pricing recommendations based upon that data
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary
Ability to effectively interface and collaborate with all kinds of people across all areas of the company
Ability to work independently with little direction is an additional component of this job
Ability to effectively manage a staff of individuals, encouraging them to work cohesively as a team and motivating them to maximize their potential
